In T13 names are important, this is especially true of Character names, which have a profound effect on how those Characters act and behave in the system. This is accomplished by using a specific system of Numerology or Gematria to calculate a specific set of numbers for every Character from the letters of their name.
This begins by taking the name the Character is known by and looking up the individual letters of the name, and adding those numbers together. When you have added all the numbers up you may end up with a pretty big number, you then add the individual digits of the number to together, and keep doing that, until you get a single number between 1 and 13 (although note that numbers over 9 offer you a choice of two Geometries to choose from. E.g. Desi has 4+5+6+1 = 16 = 1+6 = 7 so Desi has a Gematria number of 7. We call this Gematria the Character Geometry Number.
1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |
A | B | G | D | E | S | O | Ch | Th |
J | Bh | Gh | M | N | U | Z | F | Ts |
Q | C | L | T | V | H | Tz | ||
Y | K | Sh | W | P | ||||
I | R | X | Ph |
The first letter of the name (the initial) is used to calculate the Nascent Number. This is the Geometry that the Character returns towards when stressed. If the Nascent Number differes from the Geometry number then the number will add an Additional Stressor, which is another way that the Character will gain Stress. If the Nascent number matches the Geometry Number then the Soul or Facade Number may end up adding the additional Stress. For Desi the D gives a Nascent number of 4.
Next we calculate the Facade and Soul Numbers of the name. Facade Numbers are calculated from just the consonants of the name. Soul Number is calculated from just the vowels of the name. We generally consider a “y” as a vowel for ease of calculation here. The Facade number is how the Character presents themselves to the universe, and they also gain Chi like their Facade number dictates as well as their own Geometry. The Soul Number offers the Character a Soul Gift which is just like their normal Geometry Gift, but which costs them a point of Chi to activate.
Finally there are the Dissonant and Harmonic numbers which relate to musical modes and scales, to determine which numbers are harmonic with the Character and which are Dissonant. The Nascent, Facade and Soul may find a resonance in these numbers, with one or the other appearing as the Perfect Harmony or Sustained Dissonant when they can. Otherwise they are calculated in complex ways that you probably shouldn't attempt by hand. Instead, the system will do all those calculations for you and present you with all the data necessary. Here's a fully calculated example of Desi for you to look at.
Geometry has a powerful effect on the Character, deciding how each version of the Character (by name) gains Chi, Yin, Yang and what Gifts they have available to them. Which Character Geometries they will get on best with (the Soul Number or Perfect Harmony) and which they will not (the Nemesis Dissonant).
